Asif Equbal received his BS-MS integrated degree from IISER Mohali, India in 2013 and his PhD from Aarhus University, Denmark in 2016. He completed postdoctoral research at UC Santa Barbara, California (2017-2021) and Northwestern University, Chicago (2021-2022). Equbal's research interests are interdisciplinary, focusing on the development of dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) techniques which significantly improve the sensitivity of NMR for biomedical imaging. His long-term interests include the application of light-activated spin chemistry for the development of materials for future quantum technologies. He has been recognized with the John-Weil Young Investigator Award in 2022 by the International EPR (ESR) Society for his contributions to the advancement of DNP using EPR and received the Molekylspektroskopiprisen in 2017 from the Danish Society of Molecular Spectroscopy for his PhD thesis evaluated in 2015. Equbal is a co-founder of the Global NMR Discussion Meetings, an online forum for organizing educational seminars and conferences related to NMR.
