Biography

Asilata Bapat is a Senior Lecturer at the Mathematical Sciences Institute of the Australian National University and an ARC DECRA Fellow. She received her PhD in June 2016 from the University of Chicago, studying under Professor Victor Ginzburg. Prior to joining ANU, she completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Georgia under Professor William Graham. Her academic background includes a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bapat's research mainly focuses on issues in representation theory and algebraic geometry, particularly the interplay between topology and geometric properties of algebraic varieties arising from representation theory. Her interest encompasses topics such as perverse sheaves, quiver varieties, equivariant cohomology, and Bernstein–Sato polynomials.
