Dr. Asim Farooq

Biography

Asim Farooq, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the University of Chicago. His clinical interests include Cornea and External Eye Diseases, Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD), Herpes Simplex, Herpes Zoster, and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Farooq's research focuses on ocular surface diseases and the implications of herpetic infections on the eye. He has contributed to numerous publications concerning the management of ocular adverse reactions associated with various therapies, including antibody-drug conjugates in cancer treatment. Dr. Farooq is recognized for his work in developing grading scales for ocular reactions and has presented significant findings related to ocular safety profiles. He is dedicated to advancing the understanding of corneal health in affected patients, particularly those with underlying conditions such as multiple myeloma. His academic journey includes completing his medical degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and fellowships focusing on corneal specialties. He has been awarded the Claes Dohlman Fellowship Award and is noted for his compassionate care as recognized by the Respect Compassion Award from his department.
