Biography

Assad Oberai is a Professor in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California. Before joining USC, he was at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he served as an Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and as the Associate Director of the Scientific Computation Research Center. He was also an Assistant Professor at Boston University from 2001 until 2005, joining the Rensselaer faculty in 2006. Oberai completed his PhD at Stanford University in 1998, followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Colorado in 1994, and his Bachelor’s degree from Osmania University in 1992, all in Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on the design and implementation of data-driven, physics-based models and algorithms to address significant engineering and scientific challenges, particularly in disease detection and diagnosis, and modeling complex multi-physics systems. He has served on the editorial board of various journals, including PLOS ONE.
