Dr. Assen Marintchev

Biography

Assen Marintchev is an Associate Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Biophysics. He received his PhD from the University of Connecticut and holds a Master's and Bachelor's degree from Sofia University. His research focuses on providing a detailed structural and dynamic picture of protein translation initiation in human cells, studying the regulatory interactions and mechanisms underlying pathological processes that disrupt the integrated stress response, which can lead to a wide range of diseases, particularly neurodegenerative disorders. His current work builds on extensive training in NMR methodology, contributing to a state-of-the-art understanding of biophysical chemistry. Marintchev has taken on mentoring roles for graduate students in the Graduate Medical Sciences at Boston University, highlighting his commitment to education and guidance in research.
