Astrid Kemperman is a Full Professor of Urban Planning & Healthy Living at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her research and education focus on urban planning management to transform the conditions of the physical and social environment in which people live, work, travel, and play. The accessibility of facilities and services and the ability to develop healthy lifestyles and strong social networks are significantly influenced by the environment. Hence, the outcomes of planning become key factors determining the health, well-being, and quality of life for people in cities. With recent digital technological innovations, there is an opportunity to promote beneficial connections between the physical and social environment and people's activity patterns, resulting in enhanced health and well-being. New technologies also introduce questions for urban planning, such as how to integrate physical and digital infrastructures for the benefit of disadvantaged groups. Kemperman’s research agenda encompasses distinct interrelated themes including active living environments, connected communities, and responsible tourism. She has received support from various scientific European and national grants, as well as cooperative grants with policymakers and industry partners. Notably, she has published over 90 scientific publications and more than 100 conference papers and serves as an associate editor for the Annals of Tourism Research. Additionally, she collaborates with the University of Queensland Business School in Australia on developing livable and sustainable tourism environments.
