Biography

Astrid Lorange is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Art & Design at the University of New South Wales, specializing in writing and cultural studies. She completed her doctoral thesis on Gertrude Stein's contemporary poetics in 2013, leading to her scholarly monograph, 'Reading Written: Brief Index Gertrude Stein', published in 2014. Her research focuses on the intersections of modern contemporary art, literature, policing, incarceration, gender, sexuality, and political economy, with her work appearing in notable journals such as Crime, Media, Culture and Australian Feminist Studies. Her current projects include a co-authored book titled 'Art Unmaking: Abolition Aesthetics Australia', which explores the relationship between contemporary Australian art and abolitionist frameworks. Astrid is also co-authoring 'Family Fortress', which examines contemporary right-wing content and its relationship to gender and family structures. As a founding member of the Infrastructural Inequalities research network and a member of various research hubs at UNSW, she actively contributes to multiple academic discourses. Her passion for literary criticism is reflected in her upcoming poetry publications and her commitment to supervising a range of undergraduate and postgraduate projects in Art Theory and Creative Writing.
