Dr. Astrid Terkelsen

Biography

Astrid Juhl Terkelsen is a Clinical Professor at Aarhus University, specializing in the field of neurology, particularly focusing on disorders of the autonomic nervous system and small fiber neuropathies. With a deep commitment to advancing the understanding of these complex conditions, her research aims to improve methods for studying the body's autonomic nervous system and to detect early signs of nerve diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and hereditary amyloidosis. Terkelsen has been actively involved in clinical consultancy within the Department of Neurology, investigating and treating patients while leading the autonomic laboratory. Her academic qualifications include a Doctorate of Medical Science (DMSc) and a PhD, both attained from Aarhus University, where she has extensively researched the sympathetic nervous system and its role in acute pain conditions. Terkelsen has numerous publications and has participated in various high-level projects aimed at understanding neurogenic dysfunction and its implications for patient care. She engages actively in mentorship, lectures, and collaborations with a focus on enhancing clinical practice and research in neurology.
