Dr. Athanassios Economou

Biography

Athanassios Economou is a professor of architecture at the College of Design at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he serves as the Director of the Shape Computation Lab. His research focuses on shape grammars, computational design, formal specification style, computer-aided design, and design theory. Economou has authored forty published papers and has overseen several funded projects, including the Shape Machine and Courtsweb initiatives. He is known for his design studios at Georgia Tech, which have received prestigious awards in national and international architectural competitions. Economou has been invited to give talks, seminars, and workshops at renowned institutions such as MIT, Harvard, TU Vienna, and Tsinghua University. He holds a Diploma in Architecture from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), an M.Arch from the University of Southern California (USC), and a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
