Dr. Athanassios Petrotos

Biography

Growing up in Greece, Athanassios Petrotos, MD, recalls the moment that defined his career path when he expressed a desire to become a surgeon to his sister, a gynecologist, during his childhood. After obtaining his medical degree in the Greek Army and being assigned to a NATO hospital in Italy during the Gulf War, Petrotos was inspired by the extensive resources and diverse personnel he encountered there. His specialties include elective general surgery, emergency general surgery, and trauma surgery, and he serves as the medical director of trauma at Greenwich Hospital. He focuses on providing care for trauma patients and performs various procedures, including emergency abdominal surgeries and elective interventions like hernia repairs and gallbladder removals using minimally invasive surgical techniques. Petrotos emphasizes the importance of building a good rapport with patients and considers it an art that requires years of mastery. He believes in helping patients understand their conditions and management strategies following treatment.
