Biography

Athanassios G. Siapas is a Professor at the California Institute of Technology in the Division of Engineering and Applied Science. He holds a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1990), an M.S. (1992), and a Ph.D. (1996). He has served as an Assistant Professor (2002-2008), then became a Bren Scholar (2003-2008) and an Associate Professor (2008-2010), reaching his current position in 2010. His work focuses on the study of information processing networks of neurons, particularly how neuronal mechanisms underpin learning and memory formation. He utilizes techniques like multi-electrode recording to examine the interactions between hippocampal and neocortical brain areas during learning processes. His experimental efforts are complemented by theoretical studies of network models and the development of tools for multi-neuronal data analysis.
