Dr. Athaulla Rasheed

Biography

Athaulla Rasheed is a PhD scholar at the Australian National University, affiliated with the Department of Pacific Affairs. His research focuses on international relations and security, particularly in the context of small island developing states (SIDS). With a background as a foreign service officer and diplomat for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Maldives, Athaulla possesses a deep understanding of the political dynamics affecting these regions. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Queensland, Australia, which he completed in November 2013, with a dissertation examining the historical institutional evaluation of tourism and economic development governance in the Maldives. He also completed a Master’s in International Relations at Griffith University in November 2019, where he researched the role of small islands in UN climate negotiations from a constructivist viewpoint. In addition to his advanced studies, Athaulla has earned a Master of Applied Law from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Social Science in Political Science from the University of Waikato. His diverse educational background is complemented by his extensive experience in the fields of international diplomacy and academic research.
