Biography

Athirah Bakhtiar obtained her undergraduate degree in pharmacy (BPharm (Hons)) from the International Medical University and earned her doctoral degree from Monash University, completing her PhD in 2016. She started her academic career as a lecturer at SEGi University and MAHSA University, where she headed the Scientific Basis of Therapeutics (Pharmacology) Department. In June 2019, she joined the School of Pharmacy at Monash University Malaysia as a Pharmacy Lecturer. Her research interests include medical nanotechnology, particularly the application of advanced delivery approaches using biodegradable inorganic materials for enhanced drug and gene therapy delivery in breast cancer cells. She is also interested in exploring non-communicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus, specifically focusing on oral insulin drug delivery studies. In addition to her laboratory research, Athirah is keen on clinical studies related to medication safety and promoting safe prescribing and dispensing within healthcare organizations. She's a full-registered pharmacist in Malaysia and is actively involved in several professional societies.
