Atif Jafri earned a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1999. From 1999 to 2006, he served as an Embedded System Designer at the Advanced Engineering Research Organization (AERO) in Pakistan. He pursued higher education in France from 2007 to 2011, where he earned an M.S. in Embedded Systems from Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis and a Ph.D. in Unified Turbo Receivers from Université de Bretagne Sud. During his time in France, he engaged in research at Eurecom and Telecom Bretagne, focusing on proposing flexible high-throughput components for the physical layer of wireless communication systems. After returning to Pakistan in 2011, he continued to make significant contributions as a Systems Engineer at AERO while also serving as a visiting faculty member at Bahria University in Islamabad. In 2016, he became a full-time faculty member at Bahria University, dedicating his expertise to research areas such as hardware architectures for 5G communication waveforms, channel emulators, elliptic curve ultra-lightweight cryptographic algorithms, and high-speed intrusion detection systems. He is a leader at the National Center for Cyber Security, where he leads the hardware group in the Cyber Reconnaissance Combat Lab, highlighting his commitment to cutting-edge research. He has hands-on experience with Hardware Description Languages and the realization of large-scale digital systems using FPGAs. Since October 2023, he has been part of the Electronic & Nanoscale Engineering Division at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow.
