Biography

Atiyah Yahya is an Associate Professor in the Division of Medical Physics at the University of Alberta. He completed his Ph.D. in Medical Sciences with a focus on Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Computer Engineering at the same institution, after obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics. Yahya’s research is primarily centered on in-vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), where he specializes in techniques for the quantification of brain metabolites and lipids using advanced MRS methods. His work utilizes high-field MRI scanners, including 3T and 9.4T systems housed at the Cross Cancer Institute. In addition to his research, he holds several professional credentials, including Fellow of the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (FCCPM) and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Alberta (P.Eng.). Yahya actively participates in the Medical Physics Graduate Program as a course coordinator and instructor for multiple courses, including Advanced Magnetic Resonance Physics and Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Applications, contributing to the education and training of future medical physicists.
