Dr. Atman Desai

Biography

Atman Desai is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University, specializing in the treatment of spinal cord tumors, metastatic spine disease, complex spinal reconstruction, and adult spinal deformity such as scoliosis. His clinical practice integrates advanced imaging and individualized surgical planning to achieve the safest and most effective outcomes for patients with challenging spinal conditions. Dr. Desai received his medical degree from the University of Cambridge and completed his neurosurgery residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Spinal Oncology and Complex Spinal Reconstruction at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence, radiomics, augmented reality, and wearable technology to improve diagnosis, surgical precision, and recovery in spine surgery. He also leads translational projects aimed at understanding tumor biology and identifying potential therapeutic targets for spinal metastases, along with developing emerging surgical technologies. As a dedicated educator and collaborator, Dr. Desai actively contributes to fields such as spinal oncology, complex spine surgery, and is involved in multi-institutional research and mentorship of future neurosurgeons and clinician-scientists.
