Aubrey Cunnington is the Head Section Professor of Paediatric Infectious Disease at Imperial College London and an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. His research focuses on host-pathogen interactions that result in severe infectious diseases, particularly severe malaria. Cunnington leads a diverse research group that employs various methodologies, including clinical studies and transcriptomics, as well as in vitro and in vivo models. He is the co-lead of the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Digital Diagnostics for African Health Systems, which aims to develop innovative diagnostic tools for malaria and other infectious diseases in Africa. In addition, he is a part of the EU-Horizon 2020 DIAMONDS consortium, focused on developing personalized management strategies for children with febrile illness. Cunnington also co-convenes the Imperial College Network of Excellence in Malaria, bringing together over 100 malaria researchers to collaborate in efforts to eradicate malaria. He teaches courses related to Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the postgraduate level.
