Biography

Aude Campmas is a lecturer in French Studies at the University of Southampton. Her research primarily investigates representations of childfree women, trauma, and discrimination, with a particular focus on the intersections of visual and textual representations of flowers in literature. She is currently completing a monograph titled 'Fleurs monstrueuses: histoire d'une métamorphose,' which analyzes the monstrous representations of childfree women in the late nineteenth century. Additionally, she is leading a project entitled 'Building Relationships: Priorities, Needs, Barriers for Minoritised Communities Accessing Support for Domestic Abuse,' focusing on how these communities interact with domestic abuse services in Portsmouth and the South East Hampshire area. Campmas holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin, where her thesis explored the subversive use of classificatory systems in Natural History and French literature. She has a strong interest in the themes of monstrosity and alienation within contemporary Francophone writing, especially the works of authors like Wajdi Mouawad. She has also published several articles addressing the themes found in the novels of Joris-Karl Huysmans and Émile Zola.
