Biography

Auma Okwany is an Associate Professor in Social Policy at the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research and teaching revolve around themes of education, early childhood care and development, child vulnerability, and child-sensitive social protection, with a specific focus on Eastern Africa. Her notable works include co-editing the forthcoming volumes 'Early Childhood Care Education Margins: African Perspectives' and 'Social Protection for Vulnerable Children and Youth in Africa', alongside an ongoing research project on young motherhood in Kenya and Uganda. She coordinates externally funded research and development capacity building projects in Eastern Africa and is the Lead Researcher on a two-year Oak Foundation-funded project on adolescent perceptions of healthy relationships in Tanzania. Additionally, she directs a Netherlands Government funded project aimed at strengthening education and training capacity in sexual reproductive health rights in Uganda.
