Dr. Aurel Perren

Biography

Aurel Perren is a part of the research group at the Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology at the University of Bern. His research predominantly focuses on neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas (PanNETs), a group of malignant tumors that arise from endocrine cells in the pancreas. The group's emphasis is on understanding the molecular events contributing to the development and progression of PanNETs, particularly sporadic and familial cases. Aurel's research aims to uncover the mechanisms that lead to tumor aggressiveness and resistance to therapies, employing a combination of molecular biology and clinical research approaches. He is involved in projects examining epigenetic changes and cellular heterogeneity during the progression of PanNETs, aiming to identify therapeutic options and improve patient treatment outcomes. Additionally, he explores critical metabolic changes in PanNETs, seeking to determine their therapeutic potential in combating resistance mechanisms.
