Since February 2024, I have been working in the Unit of Social Anthropology at the University of Fribourg as a graduate assistant while also pursuing a doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof. David Bozzini. My research aims to interrogate how certain power relations are reproduced, or at least manifest, sometimes insidiously, in the domain of language. I take as a starting point initiatives aimed at making language accessible for people traditionally excluded from multiple social spheres, particularly due to their literacy skills. Through an ethnography of the production of texts in Easy to Read and Understand (FALC) in Switzerland, I seek to explore the social, political, ideological, and economic foundations of the recent rise of simplified languages.
Requirements apply to English-taught Master programs across SES and Science faculties.
