Dr. Aurelio Alonso

Biography

Dr. Aurelio Alonso is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Duke University School of Medicine and the Director of Orofacial Pain at Duke Innovative Pain Therapies. He is an internationally respected orofacial pain physician, holding certifications as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Alonso's work focuses on innovative pain therapies, specializing in Orofacial pain, Temporomandibular disorders, headaches, and neuropathic orofacial pain. He is a member of the Center for Translational Pain Medicine team at Duke, which aims to unravel the causes of painful conditions to improve patient care. His educational background includes a Ph.D. and an M.S. from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, along with various fellowships in Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Alonso has held various professional positions, including Assistant Professor roles at other institutions, and has been actively involved in the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and other professional organizations. He continues to contribute significantly to the field of pain medicine through research, clinical practice, and education.
