Biography

Austan D. Goolsbee is the Robert P. Gwinn Professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He previously served as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and was a member of the President's cabinet. His research has garnered recognition as he is a Fulbright Scholar and an Alfred P. Sloan fellow. Over the years, he has been named one of the 100 Global Leaders by the World Economic Forum and was recognized as a 'star' professor in BusinessWeek's Guide to Business Schools. Goolsbee has been known for his ability to explain economics clearly, making him a popular figure in the media, with Jon Stewart labeling him as 'Eliot Ness meets Milton Friedman.' He serves on the Economic Advisory Panel of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and has previously been involved with the Panel of Economic Advisors, the Congressional Budget Office, and as a special consultant to the Internet Policy and Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice. He joined Chicago Booth in 1995.
