Biography

Aviad Levis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, where he develops computational imaging tools for scientific discovery at the intersection of artificial intelligence and physics. He leads the PI-Vision research group, focusing on the development of new imaging systems and physics-aware algorithms to solve inverse problems in astronomy and Earth observation. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Computing and Mathematical Sciences department at Caltech, where he worked on imaging techniques for black holes as part of the Event Horizon Telescope project. Levis received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Technion under the supervision of Yoav Schechner. His thesis on cloud tomography has contributed to the development of a novel space mission, CloudCT, which aims to enhance our understanding of cloud physics and improve climate models.
