Professor Dr. Avigail Eisenberg

Biography

Avigail Eisenberg is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria (UVic) with a focus on democratic theory, normative political theory, and the history of ideas from the 19th to 20th centuries. She actively engages with topics such as pluralism, identity politics, and multiculturalism, and has made significant contributions through her publications, which include monographs, edited volumes, and numerous research articles. Eisenberg has co-edited influential works that examine the intricate relationships between identity and justice, and has authored critical analyses addressing contemporary political issues. Her academic journey includes fellowships at prestigious institutions like Cornell University and the Hebrew University, where she developed masterclasses on diversity and pluralism. As a co-founder of the Victoria Colloquium and a faculty fellow at UVic’s Centre for Global Studies and Centre for Studies in Religion and Society, she fosters collaborative dialogue within the academic community. Eisenberg received the Faculty of Social Sciences Research Excellence Award in 2010 for her impactful research contributions.
