Dr. Avik Chatterjee

Biography

Dr. Avik Chatterjee is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in the Department of General Internal Medicine. He is an MD and MPH graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, trained in medicine and pediatrics with a focus on addiction medicine. His clinical work is primarily focused on shelter-based clinics with the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Dr. Chatterjee's research interests lie in innovative treatment models for opioid use disorder, especially among marginalized populations. He has contributed to academic discourse on the social determinants of health and food insecurity. His work addresses the intersection of racism and healthcare, emphasizing the need to incorporate discussions of bias in medical education and admissions processes. He has served on various committees aimed at promoting diversity and equity within healthcare systems. As a faculty advisor at Harvard Medical School, he worked on expanding the curriculum to integrate discussions on racism in healthcare.
