Biography

Awni Al-Subu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He is the medical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the American Family Children’s Hospital. His clinical interests include acute lung injury, pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (PARDS), post-cardiac arrest care, and point care ultrasound (POCUS). His research is centered on developing real-time, noninvasive monitoring technologies for critically ill neonates and children, with a specific focus on improving outcomes for those experiencing cardiac arrest through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques. Over the past decade, he has developed novel pediatric swine models to investigate physiological responses to CPR. Al-Subu has collaborated with national networks on projects that study mechanical ventilation and lung-protective strategies. He is also recognized as a leader in the use of POCUS in pediatric critical care and has published extensively on lung ultrasound topics.
