Biography

Axel Franzen studied sociology, economics, and philosophy at the University of Mannheim and Indiana University Bloomington. He earned his PhD at the University of Bern in 1997 and completed his habilitation in 2003. Subsequently, he held teaching positions as an associate professor at the University of Aachen and as a full professor at the University of Cologne. In 2009, he returned to the University of Bern as the director of the Institute of Sociology. His teaching and research interests primarily encompass empirical social research methods, game theory, environmental sociology, and the study of social capital networks. Franzen has published approximately 80 articles in scientific journals, including Global Environmental Change, Experimental Economics, and Social Networks, and has authored several books focusing on environmental behavior and social capital.
