Biography

Professor Scherer's group focuses on the application of microfabrication and integrated microsystems. The group specializes in developing sensors and diagnostic tools used for low-cost point-of-care disease detection and precision health monitoring. Professor Scherer pioneered microcavity lasers and filters, and his group works on the integration of microfluidic chips with electronic, photonic, and magnetic sensors. They have developed silicon nanophotonics with surface plasmon-enhanced light emitting diodes and perfected the fabrication and characterization of ultra-small structures using lithography and electron microscopy.
