Biography

Aya Kachi is a Professor of International Political Economy and Energy Policy at the University of Basel, specializing in statistical methodology, political economy, and quality public policy-making from citizens’ perspectives. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Illinois (2012), an M.A. in Economics from Duke University (2004), and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Tokyo (2002). Professor Kachi serves as the Director of the Empirical Methodology Section of the Swiss Political Science Association and is a board member of the Faculty of Economics Alumni Association at the University of Tokyo. Between 2015 and 2020, she co-led the Energy Governance Work Package for the Swiss Competence Center Energy Research - Society Transitions (SCCER-CREST). Kachi's research interests primarily include the intersection of energy and climate, focusing on public acceptance of urban density and the economic impacts of climate policy.
