Biography

Aydın Buluç is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Senior Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2010 and his BS in Computer Science Engineering from Sabanci University, Turkey in 2005. His research interests include parallel computing, combinatorial scientific computing, high performance graph analysis, machine learning, sparse computations, and computational biology. Dr. Buluç has held several prestigious positions, including a postdoctoral fellowship under the esteemed Luis W. Alvarez program and has served as a visiting scientist at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing. He has received several accolades, including the Department of Energy Early Career Award in 2013 and the IEEE TCSC Award for Excellence for Early Career Researchers in 2015. He is a founding associate editor of the ACM Transactions on Parallel Computing and led a team that was chosen as a finalist for the 2022 ACM Gordon Bell Prize. His work significantly advances the field of high-performance computing and enables large-scale scientific applications.
