Dr. Ayfer Ali

Biography

Ayfer Ali is an Assistant Professor in the Strategy & International Business Group at Warwick Business School. She holds a PhD in Health Policy/Management from Harvard University and an honors BA in Economics from Harvard College. Her research primarily focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship within the healthcare sector, with a special interest in the pharmaceutical industry. Ayfer's expertise includes markets, technology, patenting, and licensing in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. She is particularly fascinated by drug repurposing and the role of physician and patient innovation in healthcare. Additionally, her research delves into how serendipity can be harnessed in the discovery of new drugs and new uses for existing drugs, aiming to intertwine this aspect with strategic development. Ayfer's work has been published in leading management journals, including Organization Science and Research Policy, and has been highlighted in major media outlets such as the BBC and The Economist. She has also received the 2013 Dissertation Award from the INFORMS Technology Management Section and was nominated for a paper award at the Strategic Management Society annual conference in 2012. At WBS, Ayfer teaches in Masters and MBA programs. Before joining WBS, she taught at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain and worked with Analysis Group, Economics Compass, and Lexecon, providing consulting services in diverse industries including credit cards, oil, gas, and healthcare.
