Biography

Joined the University of Glasgow in 2020, receiving a PhD in Political Science from Syracuse University. His research covers the study of democracy and authoritarianism, political identities, and online survey methods. He teaches courses on authoritarianism and authoritarian political communication. His research interests include public opinion, focusing on political identities, polarization, partisanship, and support for democracy, as well as political propaganda, disinformation, and comparative politics, specifically in the context of democracy, authoritarianism, and Turkish politics. He is also engaged in research methods involving surveys, experiments, and online data collection. Aykut is excited to supervise PhD students, particularly those whose research interests overlap with his in the subfield of comparative politics, especially concerning non-Western countries. He plans to utilize surveys and experiments in dissertation projects. His current supervision includes topics on Middle Eastern political identity and narratives as well as gendered expectations in education.
