Dr. Ayumi Fujisaki Manome

Biography

Ayumi Fujisaki-Manome is an Associate Research Scientist at the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability, focusing on Geospatial Data Sciences. Her research program is dedicated to improving the predictability of hazardous weather and ice events in cold regions, with a specific emphasis on supporting the preparedness and resilience of coastal communities. Her main research questions address the impacts and interactions of ice on oceans and lakes concerning larger-scale phenomena, including weather patterns, storm surges, and the melting of sea and lake ice. To address these questions, she primarily employs numerical geophysical modeling. Her scientific findings significantly contribute to refining these predictive models. Ayumi's work has notably focused on applications within the Great Lakes, the Arctic Ocean, the Alaskan coastal region, and the Sea of Okhotsk. She has an extensive educational background, including a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Keio University, a Master's degree in Ocean Engineering from the University of Tokyo, and a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the same institution.
