Biography

Azad Madni is a University Professor of Astronautics and Aerospace Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He holds the Northrop Grumman Fred O’Green Chair in Engineering and serves as the Executive Director of USC’s Systems Architecting Engineering Program. Madni has a joint appointment in the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and courtesy appointments in the Rossier School of Education and the Keck School of Medicine. He is the founding director of the Distributed Autonomy Intelligent Systems Laboratory and is a faculty affiliate at USC’s Ginsberg Institute for Biomedical Therapeutics. A senior fellow at the Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute, Madni has been principal investigator on numerous R&D projects totaling over $100 million. His research interests span transdisciplinary systems engineering, leveraging digital twin technology, model-based systems engineering, autonomous systems, and adaptive cyber-physical-human systems. He has received multiple awards for his contributions to engineering education and systems engineering, including honors from the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the IEEE.
