Biography

Azad Madni is a University Professor of Astronautics, Aerospace, and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California where he holds the Northrop Grumman Foundation Fred O'Green Chair in Engineering. He serves as the Executive Director of USC’s Systems Architecting Engineering Program and has joint appointments in the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as courtesy appointments at the Rossier School of Education and the Keck School of Medicine. Madni is the Founding Director of the Distributed Autonomy Intelligent Systems Laboratory and is a faculty affiliate at the Ginsberg Institute for Biomedical Therapeutics. His research focuses on the synergy between humans and AI to enhance augmented intelligence, transdisciplinary systems engineering, digital twin technology, and model-based systems engineering. He has extensive industry experience, having served as Chief Systems Engineering Advisor to the Aerospace Corporation and has led over 97 R&D projects with a total funding exceeding $100 million. Madni is a recognized leader in systems engineering, having received numerous awards and honors, including election to the National Academy of Engineering and induction into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows. His commitment to education within engineering has merited him many accolades, particularly in advancing aerospace engineering principles.
