Biography

Azadeh Yazdan-Shahmorad joined the University of Washington in Fall 2017 as the Washington Research Foundation Innovation Associate Professor. Her research focuses on neuroengineering, aiming to develop novel tools and technologies to interrogate and understand the nervous system. The long-term goal of her work is to utilize these tools for personalized neurorehabilitation to help restore function in individuals with neurological and psychiatric disorders. Yazdan-Shahmorad received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in biomedical engineering from Tehran Polytechnic University and the University of Tehran, respectively. She earned her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Michigan in 2011. In recognition of her contributions to the field, she has received several awards including the Excellence Mentorship Award from the Bioengineering Department in 2019 and multiple fellowships from the American Heart Association.
