Biography

B. Douglas Bernheim is the Edward Ames Edmonds Professor of Economics at Stanford University and serves as the Department Chair. He joined the faculty at Stanford in 1982 after completing his A.B. in Economics at Harvard University and earning his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bernheim's career has included positions at Northwestern University and Princeton University before returning to Stanford in 1994. He has received numerous accolades, including election as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society, as well as a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. His research has significantly influenced various fields, including public economics, behavioral economics, and game theory. Notable contributions involve introducing rationalizability in game theory, developing theories on social motives in economics, and conducting pioneering analyses in financial education.
