Dr. Babak Hassibi

Biography

Babak Hassibi is the Mose Lillian S. Bohn Professor of Electrical Engineering at Caltech. He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Tehran in 1989, and his Master's and Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1993 and 1996, respectively. Hassibi commenced his academic career as an Assistant Professor at Caltech in 2001, where he became an Associate Professor in 2003 and a full Professor in 2008. In addition to his professorship, he has held several key positions, including Binder/Amgen Professor and Executive Officer. His research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including communications theory, information theory, adaptive statistical signal processing, robust distributed control, and machine learning. He has made notable contributions to wireless communications, robust control, adaptive filtering, and complex networks. His work emphasizes the mathematical underpinnings of these fields, particularly in linear algebra and the development of fast algorithms.
