Biography

Bala Venkatesh is a Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer, Biomedical Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University and serves as the Academic Director of the Centre of Urban Energy. Since joining Ryerson University in 2008, he has focused on electrical engineering with a specialization in power systems analysis and optimization. Prior to this role, Venkatesh held positions at Crompton Greaves in Mumbai, India, in the Large Power Transformer division, and as a Lecturer at Anna University, India between 1994 and 2000. He later served as an Associate Professor at Multimedia University in Malaysia from 2001 to 2004, and at the University of New Brunswick from 2005 to 2007. Dr. Venkatesh is a Senior Member of IEEE and a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada. His research includes the applications of fuzzy optimization in power systems, and he has successfully applied his research outcomes in consulting projects across India and Canada, with over 100 publications including 50 in refereed journals. He holds research grants exceeding 10 million dollars and leads the Power Energy Analysis Research Lab at Ryerson.
