Dr. Balasingham Balachandran

Biography

Professor Balasingham Balachandran is a distinguished academic in Finance at Monash University Malaysia, focusing on producing high-quality research. Previously, he served as Head of the Department of Finance at Monash Malaysia and has held honorary professorships at La Trobe University. Throughout his academic career, he has worked at notable institutions including La Trobe University and Victoria University of Wellington, and University of Jaffna. He earned his PhD and Master's degree in Social Science in Accounting and Finance from the University of Birmingham, and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Jaffna. Professor Balachandran has published extensively in leading international journals, including those ranked A* by the Australian Business Deans Council, such as the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Corporate Finance. His contributions to the field have been recognized with awards for academic excellence, including the Dean’s Award at La Trobe University in 2011 and commendations at Monash University. He has significantly contributed to research ratings in the Finance Discipline and has successfully supervised many PhD students, with several having published in top-tier journals. His research interests lie in corporate finance, corporate governance, capital market research, and issues regarding dividend policy and mergers and acquisitions. He has also organized international conferences and has received multiple awards for his contributions to the research community.
