Biography

Baljinder Sekhon is an Associate Professor of Composition at Penn State University, where he has contributed to the fields of music composition and electronic music. Over the span of his career, Sekhon has presented 500 concerts across twenty countries, showcasing a diverse range of works for large ensembles, solo pieces, and electronic music. His recent compositions include a double concerto for oboe and bassoon, which premiered at the International Double Reed Society Conference in 2019, and a new orchestral work titled 'STARS' with the Florida Orchestra. Additionally, he has received notable performances at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Sekhon’s academic background includes a PhD and MA from the Eastman School of Music and a BM from the University of South Carolina. His teaching efforts were recognized with an Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher award at the University of South Florida. Sekhon’s extensive awards include the Howard Hanson Orchestral Prize and multiple ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards. His compositions have been recorded by various labels, and sheet music is published internationally. Sekhon actively engages in global music collaborations and commissions, reflecting his dedication to enriching the contemporary music landscape.
