Dr. Bandita Mainali

Biography

Dr. Bandita Mainali has been a Lecturer at Macquarie University's School of Engineering since 2022, teaching a wide array of subjects related to Civil and Water Resources Engineering. Previously, she served as a Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department at La Trobe University from 2014 to 2021, where she also acted as the course advisor for the Master of Engineering Program, and was the 1st year Engineering Program Coordinator and Capstone Project Coordinator. Over the years, she has supervised around 100 Capstone project students and is currently supervising three PhD students. Dr. Mainali has a combined decade of industrial and academic experience, specializing in civil and environmental engineering, particularly in hydrology and hydraulics. Her practical knowledge encompasses hydraulic modeling using software such as MUSIC and HECRAS, water and wastewater engineering, membrane technologies, and advanced biological wastewater treatment methods. Her primary research interests lie in innovative water and wastewater treatment and reuse technologies, focusing on community perceptions of alternative water sources and promoting environmental education. Her current research includes optimizing coagulation processes in water treatment, addressing acid drainage, exploring new uses for recycled water, and implementing monitoring for Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD). Dr. Mainali has earned her Civil Engineering degree in Nepal, a Water Resources Management DAAD Scholarship in Germany, and completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering with an APA Scholarship in Australia.
