Biography

Banghua Zhu is an incoming Assistant Professor at the University of Washington's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, starting in Fall 2025. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was advised by Michael Jordan and Jiantao Jiao. He also obtained his bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University. Banghua's research focuses on improving the efficiency and safety of foundation models using statistical tools and machine learning theory. He is dedicated to creating open-source datasets and tools for public access, and has additional interests in game theory, reinforcement learning, human-AI interactions, and machine learning systems. He is a recipient of the David Sakrison Memorial Prize for outstanding research at Berkeley EECS and co-founded Nexusflow AI, a team that leverages cutting-edge research to democratize generative AI agents for enterprises.
