Dr. Barb Toews

Biography

Barb Toews is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington Tacoma with a focus on Social Work and Criminal Justice. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Work and Social Research from Bryn Mawr College and a Master’s degree in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University. Her extensive academic and research interests revolve around restorative justice, trauma healing, and the psycho-social-behavioral judicial outcomes of those involved in justice processes, including both those who cause harm and those who are harmed. Dr. Toews has contributed to the field through her scholarly work, including publications and editorial positions focused on justice and peacebuilding. She is actively engaged with the Puyallup Tribe Indians and has a passion for community-based initiatives that seek to improve understanding and practices within the realms of justice and social work.
