Professor Barbara Chang completed her Bachelor of Science with Honours at The University of Adelaide and obtained her PhD from Monash University, focusing on the genetics of outer membrane proteins in the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. She undertook a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary in Canada, working with Dr. Bill Costerton on Pseudomonas biofilms, before moving to the University of Western Australia. Currently, she is the Director of the Master of Infectious Diseases course in the School of Biomedical Sciences. Professor Chang teaches several courses, including Molecular Biology and various levels of Microbiology, and her research interests encompass bacterial genetics, bacteriophages, and the use of biocontrol agents in human disease. She focuses on whole genome sequencing of bacterial pathogens and the identification of novel anti-quorum-sensing agents from marine bacteria, as well as exploring the role of bacterial endosymbionts in house dust mites.
