Biography

Barbara Engelhardt is a Professor (Research) in the Department of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University, also holding courtesy appointments in Statistics. She received her B.S. in Symbolic Systems and M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University. She completed her PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley under the supervision of Professor Michael Jordan. Engelhardt has held postdoctoral positions, including one at the University of Chicago under Professor Matthew Stephens. Prior to her current role, she was an Assistant Professor at Duke University and later progressed to Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor at Princeton University in the Computer Science Department. Engelhardt has collaborated with prominent institutions such as Jet Propulsion Laboratories, Google Research, and 23andMe. Her research centers around the development and application of models for structured biomedical data to capture patterns, predict outcomes of interventions, and assist in decision-making processes. Her work has earned her several honors, including the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program and the ISCB Overton Prize in 2021.
