Dr. Barbara Guthrie

Biography

Barbara J. Guthrie is an Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Michigan School of Nursing and was previously the director of the Undergraduate Non-traditional Programs. Her research focuses on adolescent health, gender analysis, health equity, and interventions aimed at reducing health disparities among ethnically diverse populations. She has received funding from the National Institute of Nursing Research, National Institute on Drug Abuse, and National Cancer Institute. Dr. Guthrie has a strong commitment to mentoring future nurse scientists and has developed community-based approaches to education and research, particularly in HIV/AIDS. She has extensive teaching experience across all levels of nursing education, leading to recognition through teaching awards. Dr. Guthrie has served as a visiting professor at institutions such as Florida Atlantic University and the University of Pennsylvania. Furthermore, she has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing since 2000, highlighting her significant contributions to the field of nursing education and research.
