Biography

Barbara Lynne Kee is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Chicago. Her research interests focus on Anti-Tumor Immunity, immune system development, Leukemogenesis, and various subsets of T Lymphocytes including Natural Killer Cells. The Kee lab investigates the molecular and transcriptional mechanisms that govern the development and function of immune cells, particularly how these processes influence both innate and adaptive immunity and their roles in the context of cancers, specifically acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The lab's major focus is on understanding the function of transcription factors and antagonists, especially E proteins and ETS family proteins, in directing the differentiation and effector functions of lymphoid cell types. Through genetic and genomic approaches, the research team elucidates the critical roles of factors such as E2A, Notch1, and LEF1 in lymphocyte fate decisions and functional maturation, enhancing the understanding of the networks that impact immune responses in infection and cancer, as well as the mechanisms driving leukemic transformation.
