Biography

Barbara Obena is a clinical instructor teaching population health in the Department of Health Systems and Population Health at the University of Washington. She is also a senior manager of systems alignment integration on the National Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity team at Kaiser Permanente. In her role, she leverages problem-based learning and group facilitation to collaboratively infuse equity into operations within one of the largest integrated healthcare systems. Obena finds joy in working on equity-centered design, connecting the dots for collective impact, building sustainable relationships, and sharing power to move ideas into action. She has previously worked with Neighborcare Health, the Washington State Department of Health, and the Community Health Plan of Washington, and has served on the boards of International Community Health Services and Creative Reaction Lab. She earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Washington's Community Oriented Public Health Practice program in 2013 and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Merced in 2009.
